Is CBD chocolate effective?
CBD chocolate can be effective if you choose products with a high potency. Compared to products like CBD oil or CBD vaping liquid, CBD edibles take a lot longer to kick in. You may have to wait up to 2 hours before you feel the full effects. But once it enters your system, edible CBD extract does offer lasting results.
CBD chocolate is actually one of the best types of CBD edibles out there because of its fat content. CBD is a fat-soluble molecule. This means that your body can absorb it better when taken together with a source of fat. Chocolate naturally contains high amounts of cocoa butter, which will make CBD more bioavailable. In that sense, it can actually be more effective than CBD gummies, which tend not to contain any fat at all.
How to make CBD chocolate truffles
If you can’t find high-potency CBD chocolate in your region, or if you just want a DIY CBD oil chocolate product, why not make these tasty CBD chocolate truffles?
Here is our recipe!
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces
- 6 tbs of full-fat coconut milk (use only the fattiest part of the can)
- a few tbs cocoa powders
- 70mg or more worth of CBD oil
Finely chop your chocolate, and put it in a large mixing bowl.
In a pan, heat up the coconut milk to a light simmer.
Slowly add the coconut milk to the chopped chocolate, mixing well. The chocolate will start to melt together with the coconut milk, forming a thick “ganache” texture.
Let the mixture rest for half an hour to an hour, and add your CBD oil. 70mg of CBD oil will give you truffles that contain 5mg CBD apiece. You can always add more for a stronger product.
Chill the mixture for a few hours, or until it’s fully solid.
With a teaspoon, form bite-sized pieces of chocolate truffles, gently rolling each one in cocoa powder.
Place the truffles in a container. They will keep fresh for 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator.
We recommend using some very dark chocolate, as milk chocolate truffles tend to taste rather bland.
If you can, use a very high-potency CBD oil tincture. With a low-potency tincture, you’ll have to use a lot more to get the desired milligrams in—which could result in a strong hemp taste.
