DES MOINES — Iowa farmers would be permitted to develop industrial hemp as a crop below legislation that Monday cleared the state Senate.
Senators voted 49-1 to send the Iowa Property a bill authorizing the production, processing and promoting of industrial hemp in Iowa topic to federal approval and below the guidance of the state Division of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The measure was guided by the U.S. Farm Bill, which properly legalized hemp production.
