As portion of its efforts to crack down on hundreds of illegal marijuana organizations in the city, the Los Angeles Police Division has assisted other departments more than the final two weeks in shutting off the utilities of 12 shops even though also continuing to execute search warrants, arrests and seizures, a City Council committee was told Monday.
The City Council lately authorized a new policy of shutting off the utilities of illegal pot shops, and Detective Vito Ceccia of the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Division told the Price range and Finance Committee that the division started executing the policy many weeks ago on a bureau-by- bureau basis.
Beginning in the Valley Bureau, the LAPD has identified 34 company for utility shutoff and 12 have had the energy and water reduce, Ceccia stated. In 2019, the LAPD has also executed 45 search warrants, created 107 arrests, and seized 28 firearms, $155,000 in money and eight,000 pounds of cannabis, he added.
The city has also been exploring forming a process force of personnel from the LAPD and other departments to concentrate on closing illegal shops. Cat Packer, executive director of the Los Angeles Division of Cannabis Regulation, stated there have been informal meetings more than the final year but that the process force or “working group” has not however been formalized.
The challenge of illegal pot shops has been a frequent subject discussed by city leaders more than the final couple of months.
Large increases need to be incorporated in the subsequent city price range for enforcement of illegal pot shops, Mayor Eric Garcetti stated final week.
